Rohi — family owned textile mastery

Rohi excels in production and design of durable woven textiles

Everything we do sits just right. Feel free to take that literally. An intro to Rohi fabrics that speaks a sound truth. Containing almost 100% wool while sustaining a feel of smoothness, an excellence in production and design, Rohi textiles are mosaics of perfectly synchronised wool layers.

A family owned business that’s standing strong for eight and a half decades with a comprehensive passion for work and innovation, with no hunger for expansion in size, but in expertise — Rohi fabrics are entirely produced in Germany from premium quality wool, with a direct supervision and control of the production process from the beginning to end.

Rohi

Nested in a dreamy scenery on the Alps hillsides, just outside of Munich, Rohi’s creative workshop offers customised solutions for all your textile aspirations. It is incredibly soothing in this society where mass production is praised and cheered, that a company which exists for 85 years still offers a possibility of customising.

Milkyway fabric by Rohi at Estrel Convention Center in Berlin

If you need a symbolic reference and a visual document of Rohi’s splendid work, worth a visit to the Estrel Convention Centre, Auditorium in Berlin where you can see the glory and special effect of the Milkyway fabric. Milkyway consists of more than one hundred thousand dots representing stars of the infinite Milky Way. The pattern is not duplicated even once in the 3m length fabric. In that way each of the 800 chairs in the Auditorium is unique, because no two cut-outs are the same. Experimental, yet sophisticated the Milkyway fabric creates authentic atmosphere in contemporary interiors.

Another example of the Milkyway’s symbiotic, yet thrilling accent to a consciously designed space is the Theatre for Lower Saxony in Hildesheim, for which a special colour concept was developed for the project of the architects Color Concept Lab / Schlegel & Hey Designers.

Fully dressed in Rohi is also the Berlin Philharmonic Hall — a space that takes countless breaths away.

While researching about Rohi, it is hard for me to hide the admiration of the fact that the company is run by the third generation in the family of its founders — Marga Hielle-Vatter and Rolf Hielle. Feels so special and eternal in a time where everything is fast and temporary. While Rolf was the engineer, who turned the theory into practice, Marga was the designer and the creative mind of the company.

The second generation, their son Bernd Hielle — a textile engineer and a businessman defined quality as the prime business driving value and he created the in-house laboratory that represents the main part of the quality control system until today. Besides his engineering expertise, Mr. Bernd from the start showed great entrepreneuring skills — he managed to incorporate Rohi textiles as one of the pioneer textile producers in the aircraft sector.

Rohi are some of the most durable fabrics that are available on display in Oblik and as an option for your customised solutions of Prostoria’s designed furniture elements. We are more than proud to collaborate with them since the beginning of our journey.

Thriving to be innovative in a fast paced environment, creative, but an admirable competitor and a trustworthy company — Katrin Hielle-Dahm, Philipp Dahm and Tina Wendler are still going strong in today’s progressive textile industry with the motto: “Close to the customer. Open to new things. In a strong team.”
