Cover

We're delighted to exhibit selected pieces by German artist Malte Hagen Olbertz.

The series „Cover” shows stacked and layered packages, cartons, bags and boxes. It's a sibling of the series „Extérieur” referring to piles of bulky waste. While these organize autonomously, the compositions of the neutral boxes follow the traditional arrangements of a still life.

The packaging becomes the content, staying mysterious but also not hiding anything, showing itself fully with its surfaces. It's a purely picturesque construction, celebrates color, shape and light while tempting the viewer with a naturalistic, contemplative mode of presentation. Despite its high degree of abstraction the titles like „Verhältnisse” (proportions) or „Schatz” (treasure) invite for interpretation.
